Inducing Ovulation Treatment

Ensuring successful egg production is crucial for fertilization and embryo development. However, infrequent ovulation or lack of ovulation (“anovulation”) can pose challenges for couples trying to conceive. Our ovulation induction treatment aims to address this issue by stimulating the ovaries to release eggs, overcoming this hurdle.

Why do some women not ovulate?
Several factors can disrupt regular ovulation, including:

  • Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS): A common hormonal disorder affecting ovulation. We believe as many as one in five women has this problem, especially if they have irregular periods.
  • Ovarian Failure: Premature menopause or other ovarian issues. Sometimes it run in families sometimes it can be as a result of surgery or cancer treatment.
  • Severe Stress: Emotional or physical stress can impact ovulation.
  • Weight Imbalances: Both excessive and insufficient weight can affect ovulation.
  • Hormonal Imbalances: Disruptions in hormonal levels can lead to irregular cycles.
  • Certain Medications:Some drugs may interfere with ovulation.

How is Ovulation Induced?

Our approach involves close monitoring of your ovaries using ultrasound (USG) throughout your menstrual cycle. Here’s how it works:

  1. Stimulating Follicle Growth: From the 3rd to the 8th day of your cycle, we administer medications to encourage follicles in the ovary to grow.
  2. What Medications? Oral tablets like Clomiphene or Letrozole are used most often in step 1 above. Sometimes injections of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) may be needed.
  3. Trigger Injection: When the follicles are ready, we use a “trigger” injection (such as Ovitrelle or Zivofert) to prompt egg release. These injections mimic the natural hormone LH.

Treatment Tailored to You: The specific method varies based on your unique ovulation issue. Our goal remains consistent: ensuring the predictable release of an egg for fertilization. In ovulation induction with timed sexual intercourse treatment, we simply tell you when will your ovary release the egg and when should you have sex.

Minimizing the Risk of Multiple Births

Women who conceive twins have a difficult pregnancy and post-delivery journey. It’s not a way to “complete your family in one go”, like some couples will suggest. Twin pregnancy is best avoided.
Induced ovulation carries the potential risk of releasing multiple eggs, which can increase the chances of multiple births, especially twins. At our clinic, we take a vigilant approach to minimize this risk. Here’s how:

  1. Ovarian Monitoring:Throughout your treatment cycle, we closely monitor your ovarian responses. By doing so, we can adjust the treatment plan as needed to reduce (if not completely avoid) the release of multiple egg releases.
  2. Cycle Cancellation:If the risk of multiple births becomes too high, we may recommend canceling the cycle. Importantly, a canceled cycle does not impact your multi-cycle package, ensuring that you don’t face any financial loss.

Fixed Fee Packages for Peace of Mind

We understand that transparency and peace of mind are essential during your fertility journey. Our fixed fee packages offer several advantages:

  1. Upfront Cost Clarity: Regardless of the number of cycles or scans required, you’ll know the treatment cost upfront. No surprises, no hidden fees.
  2. Clinical Decision-Making: Our focus is on clinical excellence, not financial considerations. If a treatment cycle needs to be canceled due to poor response or excessive follicle development, you won’t experience financial stress.
  3. Free Consultations and Monitoring: Unlike many centers, we don’t charge for consultations and monitoring during treatment cycles. Your only expense will be the cost of medications.

Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or need additional information. We’re committed to providing safe, effective, and transparent fertility treatments tailored to your needs!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Q1. What is ovulation induction, and how does it work?

Ans:
Ovulation induction is a fertility treatment that uses medications to stimulate the ovaries to produce and release eggs. It is often used for women who have irregular ovulation or do not ovulate at all (PCOS).
The goal is to trigger the release of one or more eggs to increase the chances of conception during timed intercourse or fertility treatments like IUI.
The second ingredient of this treatment is “timed sexual intercourse”. We will give a trigger injection when the follicle/s are the right size then ask you to have sex 28 hours later.
It is arguably the simplest of all fertility treatment and the least expensive and very successful!

Q2. Who is a good candidate for ovulation induction?

Ans: Ovulation induction is ideal for women with ovulatory disorders, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), or those who have irregular menstrual cycles. It may also be used for women with unexplained infertility as part of a treatment plan.
Our doctors at Acorn Fertility will assess your health and fertility to determine if ovulation induction is appropriate for you.

Q3. What medications are used for ovulation induction?

Ans: Common medications used for ovulation induction include oral drugs like Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid) and Letrozole (which are antagonists of Estrogen hormone). Sometimes we may also need to use injectable gonadotropins (FSH/LH). The choice of medication depends on your specific situation, and your doctor will monitor your response to the treatment.
The last step in the treatment is to trigger ovulation using hCG trigger injections, when the follicles look ready to10- ovulate.

Q4. What are the success rates of ovulation induction?

Ans: Success rates for ovulation induction vary depending on factors such as the woman’s age, the underlying cause of infertility, and the type of medication used. On average, ovulation induction combined with timed intercourse or IUI can result in a 10-15% chance of pregnancy per cycle. Success rates may be higher when combined with other treatments.

Q5. Are there any risks or side effects associated with ovulation induction?

Ans: While ovulation induction is generally safe, there are some risks and side effects. These may include multiple pregnancies (twins or more), ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), which is an exaggerated response to the medications, and side effects like mood swings, hot flashes, or bloating.
Close monitoring by our doctors helps minimize these risks
