After completing a Biochemistry degree and doctorate at Oxford University, then had a long postdoctoral research career at UCL Medical School, before working for the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) as a scientific inspector for 15 years regulating research laboratories and clinics in the fertility sector. In the latter nine years at the HFEA, as a Senior Inspector he was involved in inspections, team management, and also in developing regulation and inspection methodologies in multiple areas, such as imports and exports, donor screening, and responding to the legal changes resulting from Brexit and then the COVID pandemic. Andy left the HFEA in January 2023 and now acts as a quality assurance consultant advising Acorn Fertility clinics on their operations under HFEA regulation, notably around quality management of fertility clinic operations.
